'Living a Nightmare': Relatives of Unaccounted For Young People Desperately Seek News After Alpine Inferno
The relatives of teenagers unaccounted for after a deadly fire at a venue in a Swiss winter destination are facing an excruciating period of uncertainty for answers and appealing for clues about their children via social media.
The inferno devastated the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the early hours of New Year's Day. Circulated footage show the roof structure igniting as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Authorities have stated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the those who perished of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and hurt another over a hundred. A spokesperson noted on Friday that the majority of the those hurt have been identified, with work continuing to name the other six.
In the interim, relatives have been posting on social media to appeal for information about their loved ones who were present at the venue that fateful night.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are still unconfirmed, according to an heartfelt request from his family.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, told a local newspaper that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the same in Bern, but did not locate him.
"This is a living nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. It's terrible," she stated.
She explained that some of his peers had been located with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's indescribable; they went through an absolute nightmare."
The Italy's government has said that a number of of its young people remain missing.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, originally from Genoa but now living in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is deceased, without directly referencing the fire, paying tribute to a "young athlete who embodied dedication and true sportsmanship."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An representative has clarified that a official announcement of his death is awaited.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also unaccounted for. His mother explained that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and found himself at the venue.
"Someone with him told me they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he they were separated," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers commented, "He was known for his kindness and positive demeanor, combined with great maturity. Often offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also at the bar on New Year's Eve, according to sources.
Her brother has published an appeal online, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the 15-year-old or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.
Consular authorities from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the case.
